antiepileptics
Treatment for Cluster Headache
Antiepileptic drugs like topiramate and valproate modulate neuronal excitability by enhancing GABA-mediated inhibition and blocking voltage-gated sodium and calcium channels, which reduces neurogenic inflammation and suppresses abnormal neuronal firing patterns associated with cluster headaches. These medications can decrease the frequency and intensity of cluster headache attacks by stabilizing neuronal membranes and attenuating pain signal transmission in the trigeminovascular system.
