Treatment for Cluster Headache

Depakote (valproic acid) is an anticonvulsant and mood stabilizer that is sometimes used off-label for cluster headache management. Its mechanism of action involves increasing gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) levels in the brain and modulating sodium and calcium channels, which may help reduce neuronal excitability and suppress the trigeminovascular activation associated with cluster headaches. Depakote infusion with magnesium, zofran, sometimes dexamethasone...but the anticonvulsants are what really helped. Keppra helped in a pinch but I didn't tolerate it as well as depakote
