Treatment for Cluster Headache

Dihydroergotamine (DHE) is a vasoconstrictor and serotonin receptor agonist that acts on 5-HT1B/1D receptors in cerebral blood vessels, effectively reducing neurogenic inflammation and causing vasoconstriction. It interrupts the trigeminovascular pathway in cluster headaches, providing rapid relief by blocking pain transmission and reducing blood vessel dilation. DHE is particularly effective in treating acute cluster headache episodes and can be administered via intranasal, subcutaneous, or intravenous routes.

The only thing that helped pull me from a 40+ day status migraine was an occipital nerve block and DHE. DHE is intense and could make you feel pretty shitty for a while but it’s the only thing that has pulled me from the cycle.
