menthol
Treatment for Cluster Headache
Menthol acts as a transient receptor potential melastatin 8 (TRPM8) channel agonist, which triggers a cooling sensation and local anesthetic effect by modulating sensory nerve activity. When applied topically or inhaled, menthol can provide pain relief for cluster headaches by desensitizing nociceptive receptors and inducing a counterirritant effect that may help interrupt pain signaling pathways.
