oral medication
Treatment for Cluster Headache
Verapamil, a calcium channel blocker, is the first-line oral medication for cluster headache prevention, primarily acting by stabilizing neuronal membranes and reducing calcium influx in smooth muscle and neuronal cells. It modulates neurotransmitter release and vascular tone, effectively reducing the frequency and intensity of cluster headache episodes by inhibiting neurogenic inflammation and altering pain signaling pathways.
