substance avoidance
Treatment for Cluster Headache
Substance avoidance in Cluster Headache involves identifying and eliminating potential trigger substances, such as alcohol and nitrates, which can precipitate or exacerbate headache attacks. The mechanism primarily relates to neurogenic inflammation and vasodilation pathways, where certain substances can activate trigeminal nerve pathways and trigger a cascade of inflammatory responses that provoke severe neurovascular pain characteristic of Cluster Headaches.
