Treatment for Cluster Headache

Triptans are selective serotonin receptor (5-HT1B/1D) agonists that cause vasoconstriction of cranial blood vessels and inhibit neurogenic inflammation. When injected for cluster headache, they rapidly reduce pain by binding to receptors in the trigeminal system, providing quick relief from acute headache symptoms through their vasoconstrictive and neurotransmitter-modulating properties.

I opted for the injectable Imitrex, although I’m on to new meds lately. I liked the injectable because its *instant* relief and I can take it when I’m in a vomiting cycle.
