Treatment for Visual Snow Syndrome
Lamotrigine, an anticonvulsant and mood stabilizer, acts by modulating voltage-dependent sodium channels and inhibiting glutamate release, potentially reducing cortical hyperexcitability associated with Visual Snow Syndrome. By stabilizing neuronal membranes and decreasing excessive neuronal firing, it may help ameliorate the persistent visual disturbances characteristic of the syndrome. Some clinical evidence suggests it can provide symptomatic relief by modulating aberrant cortical processing and reducing the intensity of visual static and other perceptual phenomena.
